On 6th October, 2011, Mumbai-based Sisco Research Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. (SRL) acquired a Chennai-based biotech company, Madras Biotech (MBT), in a 100% stake-transfer deal.

Madras Biotech, a woman-only enterprise based in the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, engages in the manufacture of a range of products suitable for advanced molecular biology and biotechnology techniques, typically DNA & Protein Markers and PCR Products.

Due to the growing potential in biotechnology industry, SRL had introduced its own BioLit range of products in 2008. In 3 short years we have received tremendous support for our brand of BioLit Molecular Biology Reagents, and have come to be known and preferred by many of the major institutions and universities across India and to many Asian & European countries.

This acquisition marks the first ever acquisition deal by SRL in it's 37-year history. The manufacturing unit of Madras Biotech will be renamed and referred to as the BioLit Division of Sisco Research Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., Chennai
